Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions we hear most.

Are my files safe?

Yes. ZIP repair always writes to a copy — the original archive is never touched. File and folder renames show a full before → after preview and only run after you confirm. Unrecoverable names are flagged, never silently guessed.

Does Mojifix need the internet?

No. The app has no network access at all. Detection and repair run entirely on your Mac; nothing is uploaded, collected or tracked.

Which encodings can it repair?

Shift-JIS (Japanese), EUC-KR/CP949 (Korean), GBK (Simplified Chinese), Big5 (Traditional Chinese), and macOS NFD normalization damage (split Korean jamo). Detection picks the right one automatically, and you can override it manually.

Why is a name flagged as unrecoverable?

Because some of its original bytes no longer exist — commonly replaced by ? during an earlier lossy copy. No software can reconstruct information that was deleted; Mojifix tells you honestly instead of inventing a name.

How much does it cost?

$4.99, one time, on the Mac App Store. No subscription, no in-app purchases. One purchase covers all your Macs signed into the same Apple ID.

Is there an iPhone or Android version?

A mobile version is in development. You can register interest for the iPhone or Android version — one tap counts as one vote and helps us prioritize.
